About the Client:

An engaging older gentleman residing in Hancock Park, he has visual and hearing impairments and experiences some cognitive challenges, notably with short-term memory and language processing. Despite these challenges, he remains a keen intellect with interests in philosophy and altruism. He is married, with a spouse engaged in numerous responsibilities outside the home.

Position Overview:

You should have excellent communication skills and the ability to interact with someone who is visually and hearing impaired. You are expected to be reliable and have a genuine interest in working with older adults.

Key Responsibilities:

• Engaging the client in stimulating conversation and activities.

• Initiating audible books, online articles, emails, or podcasts of interest for the client.

• Taking the client on walks and encouraging light exercise.

• Driving and accompanying the client to appointments and on errands.

• Occasionally preparing or picking up meals, or dining out with the client.

Qualifications:

• At least 2 years of companionship experience

• Home Care Aide (HCA) registration

• Must possess a clean, functional, and safe car.

• Ability to think on their feet and use common sense.

• Demonstrable experience working with older adults.

• Verifiable references.

• Excellent communication skills.

Schedule: The regular part-time schedule is 12 – 15 hours per week (mornings), spread over three non-consecutive days. There's potential for the role to expand into more hours per week.

Compensation: $21/hour.
